The last European vs US women's golf contest taking place in Europe was in Spain last year, while the upcoming tournament set for the Netherlands in 2026.

In the wake of Europe's recent men's golf championship triumph, the national golf association is pressing UK authorities to guarantee their proposal to host the premier women's golf event on English soil for the first time.

This elite competition pitting the top female golfers of Europe and America has been held on two occasions in Scotland and in Wales yet never on English territory. An official proposal has been assembled to organize it at The Grove in Hertfordshire eight years from now.

Yet planners are seeking £30m to back the bid and at present just ten million pounds is in place. The organizing body is requesting government funding to cover the funding gap.

Funding Requirements and Deadline

Negotiations to secure Treasury backing started earlier this year however a resolution on whether backing will be granted is urgently needed. The hosting rights for the 2030 event are owned by IMG who want a resolution by the end of this month.

Funding Details

To organize the men's tournament in Europe needs more than £400m while for the Solheim Cup it is around £30m.

"We require approximately twenty million pounds from the government to support the bid," the executive stated.

"And that's supplementing existing substantial funding from the host location and ourselves and potentially other partners that we'd look to contribute."

Urgent Timeline

The executive would not state that discussions have reached an impasse, but admitted: "There is definitely a challenge presently with regards to whether or not public authorities can fund premier competitions."

"The government has proven, including major athletic events, including from the women's rugby perspective, that they are prepared to provide funding for certain events."

"I believe if we obtain favorable response in the coming weeks, we would be able to secure the tournament to be staged in England."

He concluded: "I don't have the money currently; the hosting attempt stalls. The situation could transform soon should we receive the thumbs up, yet the deadline remains urgent."

Official pre-election commitments during the campaign stated commitment to staging international events and looking for fresh possibilities to motivate future athletes of talent and supporting sports participation.

After requests for a statement, an official for the Department of Media, Culture and Sport stated: "Britain has a world-leading reputation in organizing major sporting events and we intend to preserve this status."

"Staging events nationally motivates communities, promotes involvement and enhances local economies."

"We have a robust calendar of events in the near future, from the Women's T20 World Cup two years from now through to assisting efforts to host major tournaments in the future."

"Backing for hosting attempts will depend on various elements such as how well they produce public and economic returns for the UK."
