Exploring an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have discovered numerous interesting creations from small studios. Yet, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer includes a hero that is actually a turd attempting to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

How you interact is simple: you only need a single jump button. Across one hundred fifty challenges, battle tough enemies and visit a store to buy customizations for your dung hero.

Plan your jumps with caution, as a wrong move means restarting the level. Bounce off air pockets to hurl your character to new heights, cross fragile surfaces, and activate triggers to open hidden paths. Collect currency for buying more difficult stages in which gameplay ramps up.

Graphically, the experience features eye-catching environments and a killer soundtrack. The retro visual style with morphing geometric shapes may remind players of old favorites like Earthbound.

While it's hard to recall similar titles where you play as a coiled turd, video games frequently included toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as plant food. Unsurprisingly, such content shows up heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive accolades, like taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is ready now on Steam, with the final release planned to arrive on Steam this November.
